Green Earth Morocco: A Step Toward Sustainable Soils and CO₂ Sequestration

OHB Venture Capital has just finalized funding for a groundbreaking project: the large-scale testing of the Green Earth Morocco program, dedicated to CO₂ sequestration in desert soils. With an investment of €2.5 million supported by the Ministry of Economy of Luxembourg, this ambitious program combines ecology and scientific innovation to revitalize land and reduce erosion.

Following a pilot phase in Burkina Faso in 2019, Morocco is becoming a key site for this project, thanks to strategic partnerships with Phycotek, Mohammed VI Polytechnic University, and the Luxembourg Institute of Technology. The project focuses on soil development and treatment at three one-hectare sites, accompanied by in-depth scientific analysis to validate results and obtain the necessary certifications.

The heart of this initiative relies on a patented blend of microorganisms – bacteria, microalgae, fungi, and lichens – capable of sequestering large amounts of CO₂ while improving soil fertility. Jochen Harms, CEO of Blue Horizon, states:
« By 2027, we plan for global deployment, with the ambitious goal of covering 1 million km² by 2050 and capturing between 5 and 10 billion tonnes of CO₂. »

OHB Venture Capital, known for its investments in innovative space technologies, is marking a turning point here by committing to concrete solutions for climate and the environment.
